“Breathing Space for Teachers”:   the Reviews are in!

Following the success of the first ever “Breathing Space for Teachers”  retreat, the Education Team are looking for ways to create more spaces for this overnight retreat programme!  We will shortly be notifying schools about our plans for the next set of weekends so ask your CPD  Coordinator to keep an eye on when they  will take place!  Remember, you can book a place for yourself by following the link below!

An Introduction to Pastoral Care in the Catholic Secondary School

This two day non-residential course has become popular with teachers who wish to enhance their practice in this vital area of pupil development. It has also become an ideal opportunity to develop and reflect on the skills and aptitudes required to become  a Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care.

The Course will focus on:

  • Pastoral Care in the Catholic school.
  • Prioritising and time management.
  • Anti-Bullying strategies.
  • Advocacy for the pupil.
  • Working with parents.

The course will be presented by former secondary head teacher, Michael Canning.

Michael has a wealth of practical and relevant experience as a result of his 30 years invested in secondary education.  Participants have commented on how Michael uses personal experience and real life scenarios to ensure that the course is both relevant and challenging.

The combination of working with and for young people combined with his knowledge and experience makes this a wonderful opportunity for teachers wishing to enhance their practice.

The cost of this course is only £100: this includes all course materials and lunch. Residential stays can also be arranged which include dinner, bed and breakfast (£40).

This course is aimed primarily at those staff newly appointed to or considering a role as a departmental / faculty leader.  This practice based course will allow participants the opportunity to consider the challenges that can arise whilst trying to teach, manage and, most importantly, lead.

Whilst participants will look at the tensions that can sometimes occur between classroom commitments and the role of a middle manager, they will also be given practical strategies on how to move from having a vision into positive action planning.

The Course will focus on:

  • The Leader in You
  • From Vision to Action
  • Conflict Transformation
  • Time Management

The Course Facilitator, Michael Canning is a former secondary, Headteacher.

Having managed at senior management level Michael is able to advise and support participants as they consider the multitude of challenges which managers have to deal with on a daily basis.  He does this by encouraging participants to reflect on their own values and how this practice can develop their potential as leaders within the school community.
